Abstract
This article aims to present the results of a teaching project called “penfriend”, developed in an English as a foreign language classroom of an Elementary School located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The project’s main function was to motivate reading and writing in the English language, by means of correspondence between Brazilian and English students, for a period of 6 months. Through the interaction and participation of the involved students, it was possible to notice an important improvement in their development. Besides, this project proved to be a great way for students to know new cultures, habits and people.
