Abstract
Abstract This chapter in the United Kingdom places the adoption and implementation of reporting regulations in the context of early equal pay legislation with a flawed framework, which was remedied only partially by repeated revisions, in response to external pressure from the EEC/EU. The Equality Act 2010 updated the Equal Pay Act 1970, but campaigners continued to press for stronger means of individual and collective redress, greater pay transparency, and attention to intersectionality. It enabled the introduction of gender pay gap reporting in 2017, which increased information and stimulated awareness in the corporate world but, has to date, generated only limited change. The chapter shows that the regulations, with elements of coercion but weak enforcement, have had some impact on organizational practices and the public debate, but have so far failed to achieve their transformative potential.
