Abstract
Resumen: El presente ensayo tiene como objetivo dar a conocer las actividades y los resultados de una estrategia didáctica puesta en práctica para analizar la obra “El Viejo y el Mar” de Ernest Hemingway en una clase de Literatura Estadounidense de la Sede Regional del Pacífico de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Se establece la importancia de la literatura en la enseñanza del inglés, la creación de estrategias diseñadas para el nivel universitario y la descripción de cada una de las actividades para su cumplimiento exitoso. Se concluye que los estudiantes universitarios responden positivamente a las lecciones planeadas desde una perspectiva innovadora, lo que permite obtener resultados alentadores en el contexto educacional.Abstract: The aim of this essay is to reveal the activities as well as the results of a teaching strategy developed in order to analyze the book “The Old Man and the Sea” by Ernest Hemingway in a U.S. Literature class at the Pacific Campus of University of Costa Rica. The importance of literature in English teaching, the design of university strategies and the description of the activities carried out to accomplish a successful class, are the main aspects presented throughout this work. It is concluded that university students respond positively to innovation in their classes, which allows for satisfying results within the teaching context.
