Abstract
Abstract This cross-sectional study examined patient-provider communication about colorectal cancer screening options using the 2024 Health Information National Trends Survey. The outcome measure was respondents’ report of being informed by a health care professional about multiple colorectal cancer screening tests. Covariates included race/ethnicity, income, education, number of health care visits, insurance, age, and sex. Uninsured participants had lower odds (adjusted OR, 0.65; 95% CI, 0.46–0.93) of reporting colorectal cancer screening discussions than insured participants. Those who earned <$20,000 had lower odds (adjusted OR, 0.58; 95% CI, 0.41–0.81) of reporting colorectal cancer screening discussions than those earning ≥$100,000. The predicted probability of a health care provider visit was lowest among respondents with no health care visits (adjusted probability, 33.3%; 95% CI, 25.3–41.2), compared with those in the other health care visit categories. Differences in colorectal cancer screening discussions were observed across groups. Further research should identify contributing factors.
