Abstract
Lay Summary The adoption of research-proven technologies in dairy farms often require additional validation. One setback of this additional validation is the availability of similar groups of cows, regarding lactation number, days in milk, and milk production level to allow an accurate data assessment. Hence, one potential manner to mitigate these logistic and operational issues is to carefully evaluate retrospective before-and-after datasets. Herein, we determined the potential associations of before and after feeding a Bacillus-based probiotic over 81 months in a dairy farm. A potential association of feeding the probiotic was observed on health status and productive parameters of the lactating dairy cow herd. These results demonstrate, at the farm level, a potential positive effect on health and performance of dairy cows in the period at which a Bacillus-based probiotic was fed to the herd.
