Abstract
Abstract Purpose To examine associations of gender, neurodevelopmental disorders, and emotional disorders on baseline symptom reporting and four neurocognitive factor scores on Pediatric ImPACT in children aged 10-11 years. Method This retrospective study utilized archival baseline assessments of 91 10-11 year olds (82% male) who completed the Pediatric ImPACT at a private neuropsychology practice between 2018 and 2025. Inclusion criteria were: 1) completion of a valid baseline Pediatric ImPACT and 2) age 10-11 years at time of testing. Exclusion criteria included incomplete baseline data, invalid profiles, and age. Predictor variables included gender, reported neurodevelopmental disorder (ADHD/Learning disability), and reported emotional disorder (anxiety/depression). A multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was conducted to examine the effects of neurodevelopmental disorders and emotional disorders on Pediatric ImPACT factor scores and symptom reporting, with gender included as a covariate. Univariate ANCOVAs and Bonferroni-adjusted pairwise comparisons were also conducted. Results No significant differences were seen between genders on the factor scores and symptom reporting (Pillai’s trace, p>.07). Controlling for gender, Bonferroni-adjusted pairwise comparison revealed significant differences for neurodevelopmental disorders, with lower sequential memory (p=.002) and rapid speed (p=.020) scores and higher symptom scores (p=.030). Individuals with emotional disorders exhibited higher symptom scores (p=.019). Conclusions These findings are consistent with Moser et al. (2018) suggesting that there is less of a gender difference in baseline symptom reporting in pre-adolescents. This study also contributes to research on the Pediatric version of ImPACT and advises consideration of individual variables when there is no baseline for comparison.
