Abstract
Abstract Purpose Concussed athletes commonly present with cognitive dysfunction. Many cognitive assessments require a specialist and extended times to administer. The Mobile Universal Lexicon Evaluation System (MULES) and Staggered Uneven Number (SUN) tests were recently developed to quickly assess visual and cognitive function following sport-related concussion. This study aims to determine the agreement of repeated MULES/SUN assessments between baselines and before and after a season of sport. Method Collegiate athletes (n = 21, 20.3 ± 1.2 years, 57.1% male) completed the MULES and SUN at two baseline visits, approximately two weeks apart, before their sport season began, and then again at the end of the season. Results From baseline 1 to baseline 2, the average time for sides 1 and 2 of the MULES (ICC =0.797, p <). From preseason baseline 1 to baseline 2, all SUN lines (1-4) had strong agreement (ICC= 0.804-0.909, p<0.001). Between baseline 1 to post-season, the average time of all lines had moderate agreement. (ICC = 0.763, p= 0.003). Conclusions MULES and the SUN have a good level of agreement, supporting their utility and reliability in assessing cognitive and ocular motor function in collegiate athletes.
