Abstract
Abstract Aims Medical-Grand-Rounds (MGR) offer educational-benefits: CME & knowledge-updates, case-base-learning, multidisciplinary-collaboration, development-of-critical-thinking, enhance-communication-skills, networking & socializing, quality & safety-improvement. Complementary-food-provision is believed to be an incentive & motivator for MGR-attendance. Aim of study is to assess MGR attendance in respect to complimentary food-provision. Methods Study was carried-out from Jan’2007-to-Dec 2025 at single institution. MGR-attendance-register, food-provision, sponsorship & details-of-MGR presentation were-evaluated. MGR-meetings held without food provision were recruited as controls. Results Year Food provision MGR(n = 323) Non food MGR(n = 114) Mann Whitney U(p value) 2007attendance no’s (MGR meetings) 305 (9)attendance no’s,(MGR meetings) 2008 1154 (28) 2009 1217 (26) 124 (3)attendance no’s,(MGR meetings) NS 2010 906 (20) 395 (8) NS 2011 1213 (25) 171 (5) 0.0345 2012 1450 (30) 64 (1) 2013 1438 (25) 87 (2) 2014 1747 (30) 50 (1) 2015 1778 (30) 113 (2) 2016 1763 (28) 2017 1344 (27) 44 (1) 2018 247 (4) 382 (6) NS 2019 477 (10) 215 (5) NS 2020 148 (5) 91 (3) NS 2021 49 (2) 457 (17) NS 2022 60 (2) 428 (19) NS 2023 276 (11) 282 (11) NS 2024 118 (5) 372 (12) NS 2025 194 (6) 342 (18) 0.0124 Conclusion MGR-attendance is multifactorial, complimentary-food-provision is primary-motivator for MGR-attendance, punctuality, & participation. Complimentary-food should-be provided by Post-Graduate Medical Educations (PGME) department or pharmaceutical-sponsorship. Sponsors should be acknowledged with declaration of interested made in relation to MGR-opic. Strategies-employed to improve MGR attendance include: optimize structure & content, enhance convenience & accessibility (physical-Lecture-Theatre, virtual & recorded-formats), incentivize-participation (CME-credits, food-provision, recognize-MGR-attendance), improve-promotion & speaker-selection.
