Abstract
Abstract This chapter examines how adult relationships shape personal, social, and professional development, particularly for young autistic adults. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration by explaining how group work, though challenging, fosters social connection, shared responsibilities, and diverse perspectives. The chapter highlights essential soft skills—communication, time management, and positive attitude—that support effective teamwork, and it explains how masking or camouflaging to fit into nonautistic environments drains emotional energy. It defines appropriate workplace boundaries, differentiates co-workers from friends, and provides practical strategies for seeking support in academic and professional settings. Finally, the chapter reinforces the need to conserve emotional and physical energy, practice self-care, and build respectful, balanced relationships to thrive in adult life.
