Abstract
Despite their widespread use, parabens are some of the least allergenic preservatives. This multicenter study investigated prevalence of sensitization to Parabens mix 16% among 44,446 consecutive patients patch tested for suspected allergic contact dermatitis during 1997–2023 in North-eastern Italy. The reducing time-trend prevalence of paraben sensitization likely reflected progressive lower use of this preservative in recent years, as a result of EU legislation reducing parabens content in cosmetics since 2009.
