Abstract
Abstract Most EMDR clinicians are non-prescribers. However, as many patients receiving EMDR are on prescription medications, often psychotropic drugs, a broad understanding of these agents, their actions, and their purpose is invaluable in optimizing patient management. This chapter aims to provide such an understanding, emphasizing prescribers’ trans-diagnostic use of these psychotropic agents. In addition the chapter explores the use of this knowledge in treatment planning within a multidisciplinary context and illustrates key points via a diverse selection of clinical case examples. Based on promising initial research data, it also describes an outline of new and promising drugs and other biological treatments, including psychedelic agents and neurostimulation modalities, that may facilitate and improve therapy outcomes in the future.
