Abstract
Abstract This chapter engages with potential applications of second language socialization perspectives to the areas of citizenship and social justice. Grounded in critical and queer approaches to language education, the chapter sets out to review past and current research toward identifying some of the ways in which language socialization (LS) theory and methods might intersect with and be used to explore and enhance community-engaged pedagogies. Specifically, the chapter focuses on how language socialization encounters in educational and in other spaces may impact on and shape acts of citizenship for social justice. As such, the chapter highlights potentials for the construction of new directions and understandings in LS in the service of more equitable sociopolitical futures.
