Abstract
Abstract Aims The present study aims to evaluate the impact of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LSC3, previously isolated from the stool of an Algerian breastfed infant, on the development of allergic responses to milk proteins in BALB/c mice. Methods and results BALB/c mice were given orally Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LSC3 and sensitized to β-lactoglobulin according to a food allergy protocol. The results show that oral administration of L. plantarum LSC3 induced a significant decrease in the serum levels of anti β-lactoglobulin IgG and IgE. In addition, oral administration of L. plantarum LSC3 also appears to significantly decrease anaphylactic response ex vivo by reducing short circuit current (Isc) and epithelial conductance (G). Moreover, L. plantarum LSC3 attenuated clinical manifestations induced by the in vivo β-Lg challenge test and protected intestinal morphology from β-Lg-induced tissue alterations. Conclusion These findings reveal that L. plantarum LSC3 exerts immunomodulatory properties, probably through the modulation of systemic and intestinal immune responses, Significance and Impact of the Study These data suggest that L. plantarum LSC3 may therefore represent a promising probiotic candidate in cow’s milk allergy prevention strategies through it’s immunomodulatory properties.
