Abstract
Abstract Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4), a visible-light-responsive photocatalyst, was applied to the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to aniline without H2 gas using Pt-loaded BiVO4 (Pt/BiVO4) in 2-propanol under visible light. 2-Propanol served as both solvent and hole scavenger. Slight conversion in the dark suggested that Pt/BiVO4 also functions as a thermal catalyst, unlike Pt/TiO2. This system enabled chemoselective reduction of halogenated nitrobenzenes to the corresponding anilines in high yields without dehalogenation under mild hydrogen-free conditions.
