Abstract
BACKGROUND: Waistline treatment for aesthetic purposes is a growing trend in body contouring surgery. RibXcar, a minimally invasive technique, is gaining importance due to its effectiveness and safety. However, its use for reconstructive purposes has not been widely explored. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to examine the costochondral remodeling surgery process for thoracic deformities with a one-year follow-up, evaluating complications and patient satisfaction. METHODS: Twenty female patients aged 18-40 with congenital, traumatic, or post-surgical thoracic deformities were evaluated. They underwent rib remodeling surgery for reconstructive purposes, with a one-year follow-up. Waist circumference reduction and postoperative satisfaction were assessed using the Body-Q survey. RESULTS: A classification system was developed for surgical planning, with procedures such as RibXcar or RibXcar + Rib Conversion Surgery (XONVERSIONRIBS) performed. Type IIA was most common (75%), followed by Type IIB (3%), Type IB (1%), and Type IC (1%). Rib 11 was most affected (70%), followed by rib 10 (55%) on the right, and ribs 11 (25%), 10 (15%), and 12 (5%) on the left. The average waist reduction was 10 cm one year post-surgery, with no complications during follow-up. The Body-Q survey showed high patient satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS: The RibXcar technique is a comprehensive, minimally invasive approach for posterior chest wall remodeling. It appears safe and effective for reconstructive treatment of posterior or lateral chest wall deformities, One year postoperatively, patients report high levels of satisfaction, which are statistically significant.
