Abstract
Amino acids participate in the interaction between plants and microbes, regulating plant resistance to pathogens. Here, we demonstrate that the application of exogenous isoleucine (Ile) enhances the defense against Botrytis cinerea in some Solanaceae plants and Arabidopsis. Interestingly, the exogenous Ile application can enhance the immune responses such as ROS burst and MAPK activation triggered by fungal and bacterial PAMPs in Arabidopsis. Moreover, the STY8/STY17/STY46 homologs and MKK7 is involved in the Ile-enhanced MAPK activation triggered by fungal chitin and bacterial flg22 in Arabidopsis. Accordingly, MKK7 contributes to the Ile-enhanced plant defense to B. cinerea and Pseudomonas syringae pv tomato (Pto) DC3000 in Arabidopsis. Our results indicate the role of MKK7 in precise modulation of plant immunity, as well as the potential of Ile as a plant immune inducer through the MKK7 pathway.
