Abstract
Abstract The archaeological record of the Pleistocene-Holocene transition in eastern South America shows a long process of experimentation of different biomes. The key points of the initial peopling were flexibility and cultural diversity, with pioneering occupations occurring through migration corridors with continuous ecological characteristics, leaving among them empty or discreetly populated areas. In tropical areas, management of plants, fishing, and wide-spectrum hunting supported continuous demographic growth and territorialization, manifested through a broad regional variation of lithic industries. In temperate zones, the first people were distributed throughout wide territories, originating more homogeneous archaeological signatures.
