Abstract
Abstract This introduction presents the volume’s contents covering the current and most recent theoretical, methodological, chronological, and regional advances in South American archaeology. The chapters in this extensive compilation reflect a powerful and significant development of continental archaeology in the twenty-first century, allowing us to approach various cultural traditions, social organizations, periods, and regions from different perspectives. Beyond the frontiers and self-imposed limits of research, the various chapters show increasingly comparative as well as interdisciplinary approaches. Within this context, we outline ideas about the future of South American archaeology, predicting the development of an increasingly diverse practice and reflection committed to its socio cultural environment.
