Abstract
One of the great strengths of the positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) technique is the great depth and diversity of information it can extract from a given scientific or industrial system. This information includes, but is by no means limited to, one-, two- or three- dimensional spatial density distributions, velocity distributions, granular temperature distributions and velocity vector fields, velocity probability distributions, particle dispersion and diffusion, and a variety of measures of segregation, mixing and the rates thereof. In this chapter, we present detailed information regarding these diverse quantities, and how they may be robustly and rigorously extracted from PEPT data, including interactive examples which guide the reader step-by-step through the process, and may even be used directly to process real PEPT data.
