Abstract
There exist a number of ‘PEPT Algorithms’ whose job it is to convert the raw data acquired from a positron camera into an accurate, three-dimensional tracer trajectory. In this chapter, we provide an overview of all algorithms developed to date, from the original, iterative ‘Birmingham method’, whose development began in the late 1980s (but which is still widely used today), to the most recent techniques implementing cutting-edge machine learning methods. As with the different experimental techniques discussed in chapter 4, the different algorithms presented possess their own inherent strengths and weaknesses, which we highlight throughout the chapter, before summarising in the final section. We also include discussion of other key pre-processing methods, such as the delineation of distinct tracer trajectories from data sets tracking multiple particles, which are common to all of the algorithms discussed.
