Abstract
This chapter considers one of the most anatomically complex and variable tissues of the human body—the skeleton. Skeletal dosimetry models in internal dosimetry fundamentally are built from a collection of bone site-specific models (e.g., cranium, ribs, lumbar vertebrae, etc.) from which skeletal-averaged doses are derived. Hence, the majority of skeletal tissue dose estimates reported in therapeutic nuclear medicine have heavily relied upon ‘reference’ models.
