Abstract
Contact metasomatism of Precambrian quartzitic rock bordering a body of hornblende-biotite diorite in the Yellowjacket district, Lemhi County, Idaho, has transformed the quartzite into an igneous-like rock. Fluids enriched in alkalies and other constituents released after consolidation of the upper part of the intrusive body moved upward along the contact of the solid but still hot rock and contributed Na, K, Ti, and other elements to the bordering rock. This caused widespread formation of albite and lesser amounts of potash feldspar, and changed the quartzite to an igneous-like rock, which near the diorite has the composition of syenite.
