Abstract
Hills composed of brecciated lower Cretaceous limestones and marls rest on relatively undisturbed Oligocene sediments in the Ales graben, south France. It is suggested that the hills represent landslide masses of Cretaceous material from the Cevennes mountains west of the plain and that sliding was related to differential movement along the Cevennes fault system.
