Abstract
Recent discoveries and re-examinations indicate that a large proportion of the sedimentary iron ore deposits of the Himalaya are banded iron-formation of the Lake Superior type, and that most of them are upper Paleozoic. Correlation of these deposits, together with other new evidence, indicates that much of the geologic column generally considered 9pre-Cambrian9 is really younger. The stratigraphic sequence of the various types of iron ore also suggests that deposition in the Himalayan geosyncline may have started relatively late.
