Abstract
The Jurassic reefs on the Yonne are an example of a common type of reef formed in the geological past. They developed in an epicontinental sea during an atectonic and non-glacial period. They differ both from recent glacially controlled reefs and from reefs formed in mobile tectonic belts because they are much thinner. Moreover, the surrounding organic detrital limestone, ooelite and fine-grained limestone are not part of a 9reef-rock complex9 with the reefs themselves, but formed independently.
