Abstract
Samples of quartz monzonite from a single pluton were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spectrography to determine the mean bulk chemical composition and variation for 8 major constituents of the rock and to estimate the chemical variance between and within squares on a 200-ft sampling grid. Comparison of analyses of outcrop samples with those of diamond drill core samples showed that the outcrop samples yielded geologically acceptable estimates of average bulk chemistry and internal variance of a quartz monzonite pluton.
