Abstract
Merritt describes Mokuaweoweo on July 19, 1888. A cone in the southwest corner was fuming, and many small fumaroles were observed, but there was no other activity. The eastern wall was roughly 350 ft high. He infers a great increase in level since Alexander9s survey of 1885. Merritt also describes Kilauea caldera on July 14, 1888.
