Abstract
The occurrence of authigenic feldspar in nonmetamorphic sediments is briefly reviewed and arguments are given that they were formed after a certain amount of lithification had taken place. The restriction to marine sediments is tentatively explained by the presence of alkali ions in sea water, and the restriction to calcareous sediments by the presence of CO ~2~ .
