Abstract
Comments on critical discussion by Gilluly and Rutten of Stille9s conclusions concerning orogenic epochs, and suggests that while the terms "world-wide" and "contemporaneous" should be used with caution, orogenic movements in widely separated regions of the earth can be correlated in time, imply a common deep-seated cause, and when plotted against geological time show both a rhythmic character and time relations with other phenomena such as ice ages, plutonism and volcanism, and transgressions and regressions of epicontinental seas.
