Abstract
The join Ca ~2~ SiO ~4~ -Mn ~2~ SiO ~4~ is not entirely binary due to narrow compositional range of incongruent melting. The liquidus and solidus curves were examined in detail, passing through a minimum at 75.5 weight percent Mn ~2~ SiO ~4~ and 1,204 degrees C. Subsolidus studies indicate that CaMnSiO ~4~ forms a complete series of solid solutions with Mn ~2~ SiO ~4~ . A solvus separates the fields of Mn ~2~ SiO ~4~ solid solution and Ca ~2~ SiO ~4~ solid solution, however.
