Abstract
The internal optical scatter in plagioclase is attributed mainly to composition planes not following the 9ideal9 crystallographic directions. The lamellar albite-Ala B twins reported by various authors in the composition range around 30 percent anorthiteare probably ordinary albite twins. The misinterpretation is due to the coincidence of X and \[100\] in plagioclase of that composition. Determination of the optical orientation of plagioclase by construction of twinning axes is recommended.
