Abstract
THE suggested probability, on scientific grounds, that there revolves about the sun a second planet exterior to the orbit of Uranus, is not naw.So e~rly as 1834, when the foremost astronomers of the day were by no means settled in their convictions that even the greater portion of the then rapidly increasing residuals in the longitude of Uranus was due to the perturbing action of a single exterior planet, Hansen is credited with expression of the opinion, in correspondence with the elder Bouvard, that a single planet would not account for the differences between theory and observation.*Dr.
