Abstract
Surface silicification of rocks on hill slopes in Tanganyika is attributed to the action of meteoric waters carrying silica and alkalis removed under conditions of tropical weathering from rocks on the upper levels of the slopes. Nonporous material in the path of the siliceous solutions may become coated with amorphous silica, and permeable material impregnated by the waters may become completely silicified.
