Abstract
Relatively large crystals of allanite occur as a minor constituent, in association with muscovite, zircon, and cassiterite, in microcline pegmatites of the Wilmot Pass area, Fiordland, New Zealand. Age determinations based on the lead content of the allanite are at variance with the presumed late Paleozoic age of the pegmatite, and it is suggested that late recrystallization and redistribution of the original pegmatitic allanite by aqueous solutions took place. Chemical analyses and optical data are included.
