Abstract
Purace is at present the only active vent of a group of Pliocene volcanoes at the northern edge of the Cauca-Patia batholith in the Cordillera Central of Colombia. . . . The eruptions of Purace are of explosive character. The ejecta are of andesitic nature. The upper cone is built of andesitic lavas, bombs, lapilli and ashes. The lower part of the volcano is, however, made up of thick flows of dacite.
