Se11alle1 1"epo1ts as follows:"There me two cleavages, one parallel to b((010) and another pa1'a11e1 toa form111 the 01t11ozoneAxia1 plane pa1'a11e1 t0 5 (010).Bay, perpendicular to a cleavage face in the orthozone.The extinction 011 the 01i110pi11ae0id is inclined 25°to 30°to the 1'e1ti0a1 axis.2E is app1'0xi111ate1y40".Double refraction 111edi11111,a11d the mineral 11011-111000111'010."The gano'ue 111 which the specimens 11'em fou11d1s granite and schist,010se to their contact with a 1101p11y11t10 b1e001a in a vein pooaket, at a distance of about 150 feet from the surface.Associated with it was very rich native gold ore and also tel-1urite, though neither of these was apparent 011 the few specimens that came to the laboratory.Like e111111011site, the mineial melts at a low heat to a redbrown liquid, b11t:u111ike it, gives 011 st1011ge1 heating o111y te11u1'011s oxide with 110 t1aoe 01 selenium 01'se1e11iousb0xide.Ana1ysis confirmed the absence of selenium.Its density, too, differs from that of e11111101'1site, if the determinations, in both cases 011 scanty mate1',ia1 are to be depended 011.Afte1'a110wing for gangue the 01'igi11a1e111111011site was judged to have a density of at least 5,w11i1e that 01 the p1ese11t 111ine1a11s but little above 4 53, a1te1'a110111110 1'01 22'44 per cent of gangue, consisting mainly of qua1',tz and to which the specific gravity of q11a1tz was assigned.111 its appearance the present mineral would seem to resemble d111de11ite more than e111m011site, but the ma1ked difference in water content differentiates it shal'p1y 110111 that 111111e1a1 which yields ove1'te11 per cent.After deducting 22'44 per cent of gaugue containing over 90 per cent of silica, t111'ee 1101t1011s of 110111 0 15 to 0' 20 gram net weight each gave the following results:
