Abstract
The material here called sandstone is a cemented river sand.It is usually covered with tufa or tufaceous conglomerate and this latter with lava.* It is well to note here the prodigious rapidity of this erosion.In the North Bloomfield mine, the pebble-loaded torrent, working eight months per year, has cut in four years a channel three feet wide and fifty feet deep in solid slate.
