Abstract
Discusses the influence of wind direction on the formation of coarse shingle ramparts on coral islands in Djakarta bay, Indonesia. The shingle ramparts accumulate on the windward side of the reefs, and are subsequently shifted toward the island by surf action; changes in the position of the ramparts relative to the islands in recent decades can be correlated with changes in direction of strong monsoon winds.
