Abstract
Pyrite grains, with appendages composed of either quartz or carbonate, occur in the Lower Algal zone of the Gunflint Formation, Ontario, and the Biwabik Formation of Minnesota. The pyrite grains with appendages appear to have been propelled through solid rock by the force of crystallization of quartz or carbonate, leaving a record of their path in the form of a carbonate- or quartz-filled trail.
