Abstract
Landform features may be considered as open systems of complex behavior. Adjustments of landforms to changes in environment tend toward an equilibrium state. The influence of a past process on a geomorphic system is proportional to the intensity and duration of its action but inversely proportional to the time elapsed since the action. Tectonic movements are not reflected in a simple manner through individual slopes and gradients of landforms. Given areal uniformity of climate and tectonic history, uniformity of landform parameters characterizes regions of homogeneous geology, whereas contrasting landforms usually reflect areal variations in stratigraphy and structure.
