Abstract
Prophet Muhammmad ﷺ gave special attention to the education of illiterate Arab society by teaching the Holy Quran, spreading wisdom and producing chastity among people. The education system of that period was based on the teaching of the Holy Quran and the sunnah of the prophetﷺThis system founded an intellectual revoluation in the Arabian peninsula. In the Prophetic Era learning of the Holy Quran had the pivotal significance. During the period of Makka, the Prophet ﷺestablished Dar e Arqam for training and eduation of people. Heﷺ taught the basic teachings of Islam to the delegations coming from different regions non permanent ways of education. For a permanent way of teaching, he ﷺ designated Suffa as a boarding inst itute and appointed his friends to different places in order to spread knowledge. In the prophetic Era the acquisition of knowledge was compulsory for every man and woman. Free education was arranged in the state of Madina under the state supervision and mosque were used as school.women were taught separately from men.In order to communicate with the contemporary world, he ﷺ persuaded Hazrat Zaid to learn the Syriac language. The friends of the Holy Prophetﷺ learned defensive skills from the people of Jarash.The prophetﷺ always encouraged the acquisition of usefull rational and technical skills according to the situation. The present education system can be made ideal by teaking guidance from the education system of Prophetic Era.
