Abstract

La volgarizzazione della Vita di Esopo a opera di Giulio Landi (1545) è stata caratterizzata da una lunga fortuna che ne ha fatto l’introduzione biografica “ufficiale” per secoli alle favole. Nondimeno, la traduzione del Landi era nata come testo autonomo, come chiaramente attestato dal paratesto. La Vita può essere letta su tre diversi livelli (comico, politico, filosofico-religioso) che per essere compresi debbono essere ricondotti tanto all’ambiente piacentino, specie con l’ambigua accademia degli Ortolani, quanto all’intera produzione del Landi e alla sua rete intellettuale. 

The translation into Italian of the Aesopus’ Life by Giulio Landi (1545) has enjoyed a centuries-long diffusion as the standard biographic introduction to the Aesop’s fables. Actually, the paratext clearly certifies that Landi’s work was born as an autonomous text. The Life proposes three different levels of reading: comical, political, religious-philosophical. All of them have to be read in the frame both of the Piacenza milieu (mainly with the ambiguous Accademia degli Ortolan) and of the whole Landi’s production and cultural network.
