Abstract

RESUMEN: El trabajo intenta reconstruir la imagen de Rusia en la obra de Denis Diderot. La hipótesis central es que esa imagen desempeñó un papel importante en ciertos cambios en la filosofía política del último Diderot, particularmente en su idea acerca de la «civilización», en su caracterización del despotismo y en sus percepciones acerca de las distinciones socioeconómicas. En conjunto, se analiza la imagen de Rusia en relación a su papel en la formación de una identidad europea secularizada, obra fundamental de la ilustración francesa dieciochesca.

ABSTRACT: This article seeks to analyse the perceptions of Russia in the works of Denis Diderot. The main hypothesis is that those perceptions played an important role in the shifts that Diderot's political philosophy underwent in the last years of his life. These shifts become particularly clear in his idea of «civilisation», his understanding of despotism, and his perception of socio-economic distinctions. The article also analyses the image of Russia against the background of the making of a secular European identity, as constructed by the eighteenth-century French enlightenment.
