Abstract
Este artículo propone discutir las posibilidades de la actividad periodística para el desarrollo de una sociedad democrática donde hay un intercambio de conocimientos entre sus miembros. Para uma reflexión sobre el tema, exponemos las responsabilidades del periodista desde el inicio del siglo XX. Luego, hablamos sobre las rutas para la consolidación de un periodismo dedicado a los valores de la ciudadanía. Al final, evaluamos los caminos y los desafíos para estos logros en la sociedad brasileña actual. Utilizamos la revisión de literatura como metodología.
