Abstract
Devido à idade, às múltiplas patologias, e ao frequente internamento em lares de 3ª idade, a etiologia e a clínica são substancialmente modificadas, obrigando-nos a atenções particulares no que concerne o diagnóstico e o tratamento.REV PORT PNEUMOL 2001; VII (6): 485-493 ABSTRACT: With the increase in life expectancy, the world population is getting older. It is estimated that in 2050 the number of old people will double. In the aged, infectious diseases are the most common cause of hospitalization, the respiratory infections being the fourth cause of death and the main cause of morbidity.Due to age, to the concomitance of multiple diseases and to frequent stay in nursing homes, etiology and clinic may be seriously modified, compelling us to pay a special attention to both diagnosis and treatment.REV PORT PNEUMOL 2001; VII (6): Palavras-chave: Pneumonia, idoso, Key-words: Pneumonia, elderly
