Abstract
Los orígenes del drama religioso se remontan a la alta Edad Media y, durante siglos, su evolución parece extremadamente lenta. Se inicia dentro de la iglesia, s;guiendo la unificación de la liturgia católica y avanza en torno al altar, tímidamente en sus comienzos, para ir tomando con el transcurso del tiempo el asombroso despliegue al que llega en los siglos XIV y XV. Su principal objetivo es la evangelización de las masas campesinas, aún apegadas a ciertas prácticas paganas, a los juegos rituales, heredados de la civilización griega.
