Abstract
Los páramos, con su sorprendente y singular paisaje, son exclusivos de la región ecuatorial andina: sólo se encuentran en las altas montañas de Colombia, que posee la mayor extensión de ellos Venezuela, Ecuador y norte del Perú. El ecosistema páramo es un ambiente frío, con temperaturas inferiores a 12°, que a veces bajan hasta cerca del punto de congelación, lluvias abundantes -la precipitación anual llega a cuatro mil milímetros, nieblas densas y alta humedad relativa, que a menudo alcanza el ciento por ciento.
