Abstract
Nosso artigo é uma tentativa de abordar, a partir da filosofia de Hume, quatro temáticas amplamente discutidas em epistemologia de maneira geral, a saber: o fundacionalismo, o naturalismo, o empirismo e o ceticismo. O fundacionalismo epistêmico consiste em uma posição que defende que toda crença epistemicamente justificada é aquela sustentada por um fundamento ou uma propriedade epistêmica que possa garantir que tal crença seja verdadeira. Alguns autores atribuem esse tipo de compromisso epistêmico a Hume, mas, para nós, isso parece ser um equívoco, pois geralmente essas leituras tendem a desconsiderar a natureza de sua teoria naturalista de formação de crenças que tentaremos explicá-la ao longo deste trabalho. A partir daí, buscaremos elucidar como o naturalismo humiano pode garantir um compromisso empirista sem, com isso, levá-lo a uma posição fundacionalista tradicional em epistemologia ou rejeitar completamente o seu ceticismo.
