Abstract
This study aimed to: (1) find out soft skills of library staff at the Library of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta; (2) identify excellent services of the Library; (3) identify the influence of the soft skills of library staff to the excellent services of the Library. The study used quantitative descriptive method. The population of the study consisted of all members of the Library of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Library registered until February 2016, with the total number comprising 5,990 users. The sampling used accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis used mean and grand mean, Product Moment Correlation and Simple Linear Regression. The data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 22. The results of this study showed that the soft skills of library staff at the Library of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM belonged to good category as indicated from the calculation of the mean and grand mean of 2.97. Meanwhile the excellent services at the Library of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM also belonged to good category, as indicated from the calculation of the mean and the grand mean of 3.01. The level of correlation was significant with a value of 0.692. The direction of correlation was positive and correlation level was strong.
