Abstract
From a transculturalist as well as from a poststructuralist perspective, hybridity in texts of Chamisso literature deserves a closer look. This paper examines two interpretative approaches towards cultural hybridity in Saša Stanišić`s novel Wie der Soldat das Grammofon repariert. Arguing from a perspective of cognitive didactics, it is shown how looking at the collapse of the cultural normalcy which the first-person narrator, Aleksandar, experiences, can yield greater transcultural learning results in the L2 literature classroom than a discussion of German stereotypes about the Balkans and whether the novel renders them ironically or not.
